Banana Slug Parade and Expo

Sunday, October 25 2015 from 11:00am -12:00pm

Downtown Santa Cruz (staging at Pacific and Cathcart) Pacific Avenue Santa Cruz, CA 95060

SlugExpoParade-2The City of Santa Cruz and the Downtown Association of Santa Cruz are excited to announce a community celebration of UCSC’s 50th Anniversary!

On Sunday, October 25th, you are invited to join us in Downtown Santa Cruz for the first ever Banana Slug Parade and Expo. Gather a group of UCSC-minded people and register to be in the parade, and plan to spend the afternoon on Cooper Street enjoying an expo featuring performances, displays, demonstrations and information from various UCSC departments.

For five decades, students, faculty, staff and researchers at UCSC have been seeking answers to life’s most difficult questions. Today the community is asking:

How do you make a banana slug float?

It could involve a decorated car—or perhaps a glass of root beer? An inflatable raft?

You decide… and then enter yourself in the “first-time-on-the-planet” Slug Parade in Downtown Santa Cruz on Sunday, October 25 at 11 am. The parade is part of our community’s celebration of the 50th Anniversary of UCSC.

Think about it: a parade in this innovative and creative community built on the theme of Banana Slugs. It’s going to be awesome and hilarious and something you need to be a part of.

Get your organization, your friends, your yoga club, your astronomy class or your ukulele team to come up with an amazing parade entry (think floats, marching bands, dance groups, costumed kids, costumed old hippies, giant paper mache banana slugs, or ???) and SIGN UP HERE:

There will be awards and prizes for the top entries. We ask that all entries have a thematic connection with UCSC or Banana Slugs. Share your creative ideas and connect with other parade participants at the Facebook event page!

This parade and the downtown festival celebrating UCSC’s 50th Anniversary on October 25th is being organized by the City of Santa Cruz and the Downtown Association.
