This monthly series of film screenings feature those "hidden gems" of foreign films, documentaries, independents and mainstream movies that might have been missed by moviegoers.
The series launches on February 7th with two international titles. "Guilty Pleasures" is a PBS P.O.V. (Point of View) documentary by U.K. director Julie Moggan. The film portrays romance novel lovers in different parts of the globe who must ultimately find their dreams in the real world. After a brief intermission, the show continues with "Shall We Dance", a Japanese language feature by Masayuki Suo. In this sensitive character study accented by moments of comedy, a man fights off middle-age angst with the least likely of weapons: ballroom dance. It swept the Japanese Academy Awards, winning everything from Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor to Best Musical Score.
