Enjoy this rare opportunity to meet the director and talk to her about her film: The Education of Auma Obama. Feature documentary film tells the life and times of Auma Obama from her homestead in Kenya during the run up to the 2008 United States presidential election that brought her brother, Barack Obama, to power. Rare footage of a young Barack Obama and his family in Kenya. In English, German, Luo and Kiswahili with English subtitles.

Filmmaker Branwen Okpako is Visiting Associate Professor of Film and World Cinema at Hampshire College. She was born in Nigeria and went on to study political science at Bristol University in England and earned a master’s degree in film direction at the German Film & Television Academy Berlin (dffb) in Berlin, Germany. Her work includes shorts such as Landing (1995), feature documentaries such as The Education of Auma Obama (2011) and Dreckfresser / Dirt for Dinner (2000) and feature film Tal der Ahnungslosen / Valley of the Innocent (2003).
