Citizen Science: Black Holes

Thursday, May 4 2017 from 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Scotts Valley Branch of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries 251 Kings Village Road Scotts Valley, CA 95066

Join us for a talk about the most powerful objects in the universe with UCSC’s Martin Gaskell. Dr Gaskell will explain how supermassive black holes, from which no light can escape, can be, paradoxically, the brightest and most powerful objects in the universe. He will describe in easy-to-understand, non-technical terms using everyday concepts, how these monstrous black holes grow and produce their tremendous outpourings of energy by swallowing gas.
